Vote for the Best Businesses in Kings County



The Eastern Kings Chamber of Commerce is currently running it's "Best in Kings" promotion. You are invited to vote for your favorite Kings County businesses in 25 specific categories covering everything from the Best Farm Market to the Best Shoe Store.

Voting can be done until February 14th on the EKCC website.

After February 14th, the top three business in each category will be announced and voting will then be held again to determine the most popular choice in each category.

So take part and show support for your local Valley businesses, and see who gets named the "Best in Kings".

Canada's Top Entrepreneurial Cities [General

Kentville and Area - "A Booming Community"

Did you know that Kentville and area recently ranked 17th out of the 100 top entrepreneurial places in Canada, by the Canadian Federation of Independent Business?

In 2009, cities and towns across Canada were ranked on 12 indicators some of which included: the number of self-employed persons in the area, the number of new business startups, the overall state of business in the area and future business opportunities. From these rankings, a list of the top 100 entrepreneurial places in Canada was created.

The Nova Scotian communities that made the top 100 list were:
  • Kentville - 17th place
  • Halifax - 70th place
  • Truro - 78th place
  • Cape Breton - 87th place

Considering starting a business in Kings County? Here are some local agencies that can help you get your idea off the ground:
  • ACSBE - The Acadia Centre for Social and Business Entrepreneurship can assist you in determining if starting a business is a good career choice for you. They can also help with preparing business plans and offer workshops for local entrepreneurs.
  • Hants Kings Business Development Centre - This organization offers counselling, technical and financial assistance in the form of loans and the Self-Employment Benefit Program.
